Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have elected President Nana Akufo-Addo as the new ECOWAS Chairman.
West Africa regional leaders jointly elected Prez Akufo-Addo as the new Chairman on Monday for the ongoing 57th ECOWAS Summit which is happening in Niamey, capital of Niger.
The Ghanaian leader is taken over from President of Niger, H.E Mahamadou Issoufou who is the current chairman of Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government.
Issues for discussion on the summit included:
- ECOWAS single currency programme.
- ECOWAS vision 2050
- high number of cases of terrorism, insurgency, armed banditry and piracy for di region.
- Up coming presidential election and parliamentary election for Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea and Niger and how ECOWAS leadership will make it a free and fair one.
