Hajia Mariama Bawumia, the mother of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, died recently.
The octogenarian, who died only two days before her 82nd birthday, had been ill for some time and had been admitted to the hospital.
“It is with tremendous regret that I announce the loss of my dear mother Hajia Mariama Bawumia,” Dr. Bawumia said, referring to the lady he lovingly calls Maame.
“This morning in Accra, Hajia Mariama died peacefully. Tomorrow, September 14, 2021, at Walewale, there will be a burial.”
The Kpasenkpe native was one of the first female students from the north to be accepted into the Wesley Girls High School in Cape Coast, Central Region.
Bawumia pays tribute to her elderly mother.
When his mother turned 80 years old in 2019, the Vice President praised her as “caring and supportive.”
“Hajia Mariama Bawumia, my wonderful mother, celebrates her 80th birthday today” (alias Maame). I am eternally grateful to the Almighty God for providing me with such a loving and supporting mother. She has always been by our side. This is the pillar. Because of the foundation she and my late father set for me, I am who I am today. I owe her a huge debt of gratitude.
