Unemployed man jailed 14 years for stealing foodstuff worth GHC 50

Justice Ezekiel, a 24-year-old unemployed man from Akwasiase, a farming hamlet near Tepa in the Ahafo Ano Tano North District of the Ahafo region, was sentenced to 14 years in prison by the Tepa Circuit Court for stealing plantain and cassava for GHc 50.

The culprit was found guilty after pleading guilty to stealing food from the Akwasiase farm.

On September 5, 2021, the inmate went to pick the plantain and cassava and was packing them into a sack before being arrested by the farm owner, according to Police Chief Inspector Jonas Newlove Agyei.

He added that Ezekiel, an ex-convict, was subsequently taken to the Tepa police station, along with the stolen Ghc 50 worth of food.

In his caution statement, Ezekiel admitted to the crime, and after investigations, he was charged and hauled before the court.

She was sentenced by Her Majesty Gwendolyn Millicent Owusu to act as a deterrent to other criminals.
